Our District offers employees access to a Medical Flexible Spending Account, Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account, and Commuter Benefits plan. These options help you manage out-of-pocket costs and lower your taxable income by setting aside your contribution amount before taxes are applied.

**Your out-of-pocket costs are more affordable
**Your spendable income increases
**You pay less in taxes

What is the Flexible Spending Account (FSA) / Commuter Benefits option?
These options help you manage out-of-pocket costs for health care, work-related dependent care, and/or commuter costs and lowers your federal taxable income by setting aside account dollars before they are taxed.

You can cover the cost of eligible out-of-pocket expenses with “before-tax” dollars, almost like an automatic tax deduction. The dollar amount(s) you choose will be transferred from each paycheck, before taxes are deducted, and contributed to your account(s). Then, use your debit card to pay for eligible out-of-pocket expenses or submit a claim for reimbursement. (Note: Medical and Dependent Care Spending Accounts are not exempt from state taxes.)

How much can I transfer to my FSA?
Each year, you choose an amount within a given range to be transferred to your FSA from your paycheck. It is recommended that you base your designated amount on predictable expenses. The amount you choose will be transferred in equal installments from each paycheck to your FSA account(s) throughout the year.

The range of contribution amounts for the current plan year is as follows:

Health FSA: $500 minimum / $3,050 maximum (rollover amount = $500)
Dependent Care FSA: $500 minimum / $5,000 maximum
Commuter Benefits:
--Qualified parking: $300 maximum per month*
--Qualified vanpooling/transit passes: $300 maximum per month combined*

*See the Commuter Benefits flyer for details.

What out-of-pocket expenses are eligible for reimbursement from my FSA account?
Out-of-pocket expenses that are eligible for reimbursement from your FSA include costs for the below and more:

* Prescribed acne treatments
* Copayments
* Contact lenses and cleaners
* Dental care
* Eyeglasses
* Hearing aids/batteries
* Lasik eye surgery
* Prescribed smoking cessation programs

Eligible expenses for Dependent Care FSAs include expenses for care that allows the employee and spouse to be gainfully employed, such as a babysitter, daycare or daycamps, and after-school programs.

Visit the WEX Eligible / Ineligible Expenses webpage for info.

What is a WEX debit card?
Participants are issued their own debit card to pay for eligible out-of-pocket expenses; use it to pay your copays and other expenses on-the-spot. The amount of your out-of-pocket expenses are automatically deducted from your account. No receipts or claim forms are needed.

When can I enroll in these options?
You can join by submitting a worksheet/enrollment form to the Business Office during each Open Enrollment (typically held in the spring for a July 1 effective date). Once enrolled in the Medical / Dependent Care FSA, you must re-enroll each year to continue in the program. However, because Commuter Benefits are a month-to-month benefit, you do not need to re-enroll each year.

Can I access my account online?
After your effective date, you can register for the WEX Consumer Portal. Once registered, you can view transaction history, submit claims online, report a lost or stolen debit card, and much more.
