If eligible, you have the option to waive your District medical, prescription, and dental benefits. This waiver option offers flexibility in creating your own personalized package of benefits. If you have health benefits elsewhere, you may be eligible to receive a cash payment in lieu of benefits (note: your waiver payment is considered taxable income):
• $3,500 if your spouse/partner works outside the District or you are claimed as a dependent outside the District
• $1,500 if both spouses/partners or a dependent work in the District
To enroll, you must complete the Waiver Request Form and must re-enroll each year if you wish to remain in the program. If you lose coverage from the alternative source, you can immediately enroll in our District plans by completing an enrollment form and providing required eligibility documentation.
