Chapter 78, P.L. 2011 requires public employees and certain retirees to contribute a percentage of the premium cost for their health coverage. The percentage is based on salary range and coverage tier (e.g., single, parent/child, two adults, family). The above Online Calculator provides an estimated contribution amount ~ just click!
Employees are required to pay a contribution amount comprised of either the calculated percentage or 1.5 percent of salary, whichever is higher. Note:
1) The Online Calculator provides a calculation based on mandated percentages; it does not provide a calculation based on individual 1.5 percent of salary.
2) Keep in mind that you are responsible for contributing the higher of the resulting calculated percentage or 1.5 percent of monthly salary.
You can choose from a range of plans and premiums. The lower the premium cost, the lower your mandated contribution amount will be; consider this when choosing your health plans during Open Enrollment.
